We heard about the Melbourne Business Community through our new partnership with the football club. The decision to work with the Melbourne Football Club made sense on several levels for both parties - the oldest football club teaming up with the oldest pub in Melbourne and both embarking on new journey in 2104. For MFC under new coach Paul Roos, and The Duke newly renovated with a contemporary look and offer.

Your favourite AFL moment of all time?

My favourite AFL moment of all time is being taken by my business partner Steve Schreuder (Manager of The Duke and a mad Geelong fan) to the Round 14 clash at Etihad between The Saints and the Cats in 2009. Both teams were undefeated at that stage of the season. The scores were locked at 85 all  in a very exciting hard fought match when at the two minute mark, Michael Gardiner crashed the pack took a grab and went back and kicked the winning goal from a set shot.

The look on Steve’s face was priceless.

But to make the day go from bad to worse for Steve who was managing the Exchange Hotel in Port Melbourne at the time, Michael Gardiner turned up at the Exchange that night with some of the Saints’ players for his 30th birthday dinner.

Good for business but not so good for Steve!

If you could have given yourself some career advice 10 years ago, what would it be?

Work smarter, not longer!
